Don't Bothell Duvall · the model

Change an input. Watch the answer move.

One spreadsheet computes every figure on this site from published inputs. Each input is tagged with what kind of number it is and where it comes from.

What this is

The arithmetic behind the pages, open on the table.

This is the model behind the figures on our pages about Duvall's 2026 zoning rewrite: the state's income-band test, the homes built since 2019, the rent limits the city's draft chapters would set, what a new apartment costs to build here, what each affordability tool buys per public dollar, and a sketch of the morning traffic and parking the capacity showing would add. Every input sits on its own line with a tag saying what kind of number it is (a published record, a standard rate, our own assumption, or a number nobody publishes) and where it comes from.

Open the spreadsheet in LibreOffice, Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers. Yellow cells are inputs; blue cells are results, each with a note giving the figure our pages print. Change a yellow cell and every result recomputes. If you think an assumption is wrong, change it and see what it does to the conclusion; that is the point of publishing it.
